The extended distance option of this Ahwatukee Foothills route includes some of the foothills' more challenging climbs, including northbound 8th Street which gives the route its name. There is also a seven-mile out-and-back option that goes to the western limit of Chandler Blvd. Breakfast at The Nosh at 48th St. & Warner Rd.

Chandler/Gilbert Bronze - Updated 4/14/2013
Chandler and Gilbert have both been designated Bronze level Bicycle Friendly Communities by the League of American Cyclists. This route celebrates that with a tour that slices through the heart of each. The standard route visits downtown Chandler and loops back around the big Chandler Fashion Mall. The long route will see downtown Gilbert, then run past the Chandler Municipal Airport, and the world-famous Intel manufacturing site. Breakfast at AZ bread Co at Kyrene and Elliot.

Chandler Pecos East - Updated 09/07/2020
The extra-long route sails east on Chandler Blvd all the way from Rural to Power, returning by way of Pecos. Distance options are 28, 34 and 42 miles; the shorter routes simply head over to Pecos a little earlier. Breakfast at The Nosh (SE corner of 48th St. and Warner).

Foothills Training - Updated 07/02/2021
This is a loop through the Ahwatukee Foothills with options of 25 miles with one gentle climb, or 38 miles that will take you up 5 more climbs. If you can follow the spaghetti-bowl long-route map, you will have gone up and down all 5 approaches with no repeats and no U-turns. Breakfast stop at The Nosh (SE corner of 48th St. and Warner).

Lucky 7s - Updated 7/4/2021
This route starts at Kiwanis Park in Tempe and loops clockwise to the south and takes advantage of some of the quiet roads over by the Wild Horse Pass casino/resort area. The name plays off the mileage options of 27, 37, or 49 miles and the two casinos near the route.

Marco Polo - Added 1/27/2013
Named in honor of the famed 13th century explorer who journeyed eastward from Italy all the way to China, the Marco Polo route is designed to stretch us to the far eastern limits of our range. The 28 mile standard route goes east on Guadalupe for 13, then loops back on Elliot. The 43mile long route keeps going east all the way to Ellsworth, then loops 3 miles to the south before joining the Elliot return path. Breakfast at Panera Bread on Guadalupe and McClintock.

McKellips Loop - Updated 11/27/2015
Now with an extended 45 mile option. This 28 mile, 37 mile or 45 mile loop from Kiwanis Park in Tempe will take you north through Tempe and then east through Mesa on McKellips Road before returning to Paradise Bakery for breakfast.

Garmin Connect Digital Maps: Short Route | Long Route - Added 10/13/2015
On this route we approach the familiar Ahwatukee Foothills from the east on Chandler Blvd., cutting south to Pecos before hitting the hills. The 30-mile standard route loops back on Liberty Lane. The extended route adds 8 miles by going out-and-back to the western limit of Pecos and climbing a couple more hills before returning east on Chandler. Both routes converge again at 40th St. and head back to Tempe through Equestrian Trails. Breakfast is at AZ Bread Co. on the SE corner of Kyrene and Elliot.

Paseo de Cesar Chavez
This 34.5 mile ride (with a shorter option of 25.5 miles) will take you on a loop from Kiwanis Park in Tempe out and around Cesar Chavez Park in Phoenix and back to Kiwanis Park, with a breakfast stop near the end at AZ Bread Co. in Tempe.

Pylant's Pedal
On Sunday mornings, you could often find Buddy Pylant romping in the Ahwatukee area, following a course favored by him and Buddy's brigade. One route of approximately 30 miles, which will be a mix of our original Ahwatukee route with a bit of the Wednesday nighter's romp tossed in.
