Saturday Cycling Ride Report for 08/31/19

Hello Saturday Cyclists!

Twenty-eight people signed in for Mummy Mountain last Saturday, plus another six slipped in after the start for a total of 34.  I was all ready to skip the last steep climb when Ann caught up and said she was going to do it, so I figured I’d better.  She inspires me.

Good riddance to August and the 6:30 summer start time. See you Saturday with an extra ½ hour of sleep for a 7:00 start.

Coming up...

Saturday, 09/07/19 7:00 a.m., Kiwanis Park. Tour de Mesa Rewound

Saturday, 09/21/19 7:00 a.m., Kiwanis Park. Chandler-Pecos East
We're returning to the Hungry Monk for our Quarterly Membership Meeting, and a small change to this route will get us there. Breakfast is free for members; two free breakfasts are included in a family membership. Sign-in starts at 8:30 and the meeting begins around 9:15. Distance options are 28, 34 and 42 miles. The extra-long route sails east on Chandler Blvd all the way from Rural to Power, returning by way of Pecos. The shorter routes simply head over to Pecos a little earlier. Breakfast at The Hungry Monk on the north side of Chandler Blvd, just east of Dobson.

Tid Bits…

Just like planned, I clicked my bookmark for PMBC yesterday and was redirected to pmbc.clubexpress.com, our new club web site; it’s alive!  Try it.  It’s good.

The weekly ride schedule will be found under the “Rides” menu as “Club Events in Ride With GPS” where you’ll find a calendar format with an “event” that includes route descriptions and maps for the scheduled weekly rides.  You may have noticed for the 9/21/19 ride above I used the link to the RWGPS Event instead of directly to the maps.

The “Cycling Event Calendar”, on the other hand, includes social events, club meetings and big supported rides which are color coded to distinguish PMBC events from others that we are simply helping to advertise. These are also listed in a scrolling window on the Home page.

Under the “Community” menu you’ll find a blog feature where you can find a welcome to the new website from President Kevin (you’ll need to log in as a member first).  The Saturday Cycling Blog will replace “The Hub” on the old web site for archiving the reports.  I also plan to put Tid Bits as independent blog entries. If you follow this link you’ll find the first example: Anne_recommends_a_nonprofit_tour company. This will make pass-through information timelier and I believe it will allow interactive dialog.  I’ll be interested to see how that goes.  You can easily subscribe to blogs.  I’m looking forward to reading more of Kevin’s inspired words immediately after he posts them.

I expect to make other changes to this report as I grow accustomed to the new system.  I’ll be posting it to the blog today; then you can decide if you want to blog-subscribe or stick with the MailChimp copy.

Upcoming Events…

Have fun and ride safely,

Ken
