Saturday Cycling Ride Report for 06/05/2021

Hello Saturday Cyclists,

I counted 28 cyclists again this week for an interim version of the Tour de Sue whose map is still in flux.  As has been the trend this summer, we welcomed back a few more riding companions who had been away for a long time for assorted reasons.  Several of us did eat at the Nosh, while other small groups went onward to Panera or US Egg, just like the week before.

Coming up...

Saturday, June 12, 6:30 a.m., Kiwanis Park. Midsummer Ride
This route was designed to seek out maximum shade on summer mornings when the sun is farthest north and most brutal. In the winter it's just another route. It includes options of 28 miles with one short climb, or 38 miles with a couple of bonus hills. Breakfast at Panera Bread at Guadalupe and McClintock.
Preregistration available at:

Saturday, June 19, 6:30 a.m., Kiwanis Park. Length of Lindsay
The Length of Lindsay takes us to the east, with route options of 29 miles or 39 miles, no climbing. Breakfast at Panera Bread on the SE corner of Guadalupe and McClintock.

Saturday, June 26, 6:30 a.m., Kiwanis Park. Chandler-Pecos East
After a year and 4 months we are finally returning to the Hungry Monk for our Quarterly Membership Meeting, and this route will get us there. Breakfast is free for members; two free breakfasts are included in a family membership. Sign-in starts at 8:00 and the meeting begins around 9:00. Distance options are 28, 34 and 42 miles. The extra-long route sails east on Chandler Blvd all the way from Rural to Power, returning by way of Pecos. The shorter routes simply head over to Pecos a little earlier. Breakfast at The Hungry Monk on the north side of Chandler Blvd, just east of Dobson.

Tid Bits…

My phone tells me to expect a seasonal warming trend next weekend.  The Midsummer Ride was designed for the summer solstice and the quest for shade, but the few hill climbs it includes are mostly in the bright sunshine as is most of the southbound return leg.  Please do what you need to do to avoid heat exhaustion or stroke.  Another hot weather advantage of this route is the opportunity to take a shortcut to the finish at several points, just in case.

There is still time to register for the PMBC Tour of Flagstaff the weekend after next.  You’ll find the link below.
